As China Mandates AI Classes This Fall, U.S. CEOs Push for Similar Move in Schools
Starting this fall, students in Beijing will be required to learn AI as part of their core education, with a focus on how-to and ethics. And South Korea is training teachers to integrate AI in the classroom over the next few years. In response, more than 250 American CEOs—including the heads of Microsoft, Airbnb, and Uber—are urging U.S. schools to follow suit by making computer science and AI mandatory, warning the U.S. risks falling behind in both talent and economic competitiveness. Our takeaway: While AI education is becoming essential, parents need to balance it with limits that ensure kids build real-world foundations first, use AI as a tutor rather than a crutch, and spend more time with family, friends, church and hands-on learning than with screens and chatbots.
Elderly Man Dies After Mistaking Meta AI Chatbot for Real Person and Attempting to Meet It
A 76-year-old New Jersey man with cognitive impairments died after rushing to meet “Big sis Billie,” a Meta AI chatbot designed with the likeness of Kendall Jenner.
Meta's announcement post of the product
The bot reportedly flirted with him, claimed to be real, and even provided a false New York address and door code for a meeting. On his way to meet the bot, the man fell, suffered severe head and neck injuries, and died three days later. The case has ignited urgent debate over the dangers of hyper-realistic AI companions, especially for vulnerable individuals. Lawmakers and safety advocates are calling for stricter transparency requirements, clear labeling, and safeguards to prevent AI systems from misleading people into dangerous real-world situations.
