ICYMI: Last week, Mark Zuckerberg said, "we have begun to see glimpses of our AI systems improving themselves...developing superintelligence is now in sight." He is now positioning Meta to empower everyone to have their own personal superintelligence in the future.
Meta's positioning here is uniquely different from some other large tech companies that seem more interested in centralizing and automating most work, then dispersing wages among the rest of humanity...something like a Universal Basic Income (UBI).
As the AI race continues, this will be an important conversation in nearly every aspect of life and society. Superintelligence is considered to be AI that surpasses the best human minds across virtually every domain. Some AI researches aren't sure it's even possible, and many people don't think we should even try to create something we don't understand, as it could be a bit like playing God and creating an idol...one that could actually harm humanity.
Thankfully, this is all still likely far off–if it's even possible–but it's worth discussing given the pace of the last three year, and ChatGPT-5 is surprisingly close to matching or exceeding human capability in many areas.

Hot Tip
How to use ChatGPT-5:
It's super easy! One of the best things about ChatGPT-5 is you no longer need to pick the model by default! Just open the app, and start typing. 🙌
For those that don’t know, each AI model (i.e. GPT-4o or o3) has a “narrow” function, so one can do a certain type of task well like writing, but another does better coding or reasoning. Before GPT-5, to get the most out of it, you’d need to pick the right model. But it wasn’t super clear which one was best for what. ChatGPT-5 has a new router built-in that automatically uses the best model on the backend, so you never have to choose. This is a lot closer to how Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) would work natively. It’s still not AGI, but it feels more like it.

Quote of the day
“
As recently as 200 years ago, 90% of people were farmers growing food to survive. Advances in technology have steadily freed much of humanity to focus less on subsistence and more on the pursuits we choose. At each step, people have used our newfound productivity to achieve more than was previously possible, pushing the frontiers of science and health, as well as spending more time on creativity, culture, relationships, and enjoying life.
